Northumberland County is advising residents that, due to weather conditions and safety concerns, all Community Recycling Centres have been closed, and curbside collection of waste and recycling has been suspended for Monday, January 17, 2022.
Affected residents are asked to please remove waste and recyclables from the curbside and place them out again next Monday, January 24, 2022. Collection limits for garbage will be doubled for next Monday from two bags to four.
Please note that recycling is not accepted in bags. Additional recyclables can be placed in plastic totes or cardboard boxes, with material still separated into papers and containers. Additional Blue and/or Grey boxes can also be purchased for $6 each at any Community Recycling Centre, the Material Recovery Facility in Grafton or the County Headquarters building at 555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg.
For information about collection days and sorting material, download a copy of the 2022 Waste & Recycling Collection calendar at Northumberland.ca/WasteAndRecycling.
Northumberland County is advising that residents may experience a possible disruption in waste and recycling collection on Monday, January 17 due to forecasted weather conditions.
While all efforts will be made to minimize disruptions to the collection schedule, some residents may experience a delay in removal. In the event that collection does not occur by 6:00PM, please remove your waste and recyclables from the curbside and place them out again on your next regularly scheduled collection day. If garbage is not collected as scheduled, the maximum set-out limit for collection will be doubled the following week.
Residents with questions regarding the removal of waste and recyclables are invited to email wastedept@northumberlandcounty.ca or call the County’s Waste Hotline during regular business hours at 1-866-293-8379.
